Zen Meditation + Tea with a Monk + Inner Stillness

Healper's Note
“In stillness, you meet the most honest version of yourself. No preparation needed.”
1°C WARMER
The rhythm of temple life — early rising, mindful eating, gentle movement — resets your body clock and releases accumulated physical tension.
Extended silence and meditation create space for mental clarity that months of therapy sometimes cannot achieve. The absence of stimulation is itself healing.
You connect with something larger than yourself — whether you call it spirituality, nature, history, or simply the kindness of a temple community that welcomes you without judgment.
The Experience
Mind-Strengthening Templestay is Ganghwa 1°C's invitation to fundamental stillness. In a world filled with constant noise, this program offers something increasingly rare: true silence. During 2 days and 1 night at a historic temple on Ganghwa Island, you'll experience the rhythm of Korean monastic life — not as a tourist observing from outside, but as a participant living from within.
This is not a religious program. It is a human one. Whether you're Buddhist, Christian, atheist, or simply curious, the practices of seated meditation, mindful eating, walking meditation, and tea ceremony are universal tools for reconnecting with your inner self. Ganghwa Island's 1,500-year Buddhist heritage provides the vessel, and your mind becomes 1°C more peaceful and warmer.
Perfect For
For those overwhelmed by relentless work and digital overload, seeking a reset for accumulated mental fatigue
For those facing retirement, career change, or loss who want to reflect inward and find a new direction
For anyone — regardless of religion — who wants to experience authentic Korean Buddhist culture: Zen meditation, temple cuisine, and tea with a monk
Your Journey
Total Tour Duration: 2 Days / 1 Night
A private vehicle takes you to Ganghwa Island. During the journey, your guide introduces the history of Ganghwa's Buddhist heritage and basic temple etiquette.
A mealtime that teaches gratitude through traditional temple food, an extension of practice that keeps body and mind clear. You serve yourself a set portion and eat without leaving anything behind, practicing the spirit of compassion and equality.
A ceremony expressing respect to Shakyamuni Buddha while calming one's own mind. Following the sounds of the dharma drum and wooden fish, you offer prostrations, letting go of worldly concerns and facing a peaceful inner self.
A quiet time to examine your true nature through seated meditation (jwaseon), the foundation of Zen practice. Sitting in proper posture, you regulate your breathing, organize scattered thoughts, and enter a state of calm concentration.
Around 4 AM, the first ceremony held in the purest hours before all things awaken. Starting the day in crisp air, it is a process of organizing a scattered mind and setting one's aspirations.
A dynamic practice that continues seated meditation while walking, feeling oneness with surrounding nature. You focus entirely on the sensation of your feet touching the ground and your movement, finding mental spaciousness.
A time of communication over warm tea with a monk, resolving everyday concerns and curiosities about practice. Borrowing the monk's wisdom, you gain new perspectives on life and receive comfort.

Stories
“I'm not religious at all, so I was worried about the templestay. But from the first meditation session, I understood — this isn't about religion, it's about silence. Real silence. I hadn't experienced that kind of stillness since childhood. I cried during the dawn bell ceremony and still don't fully understand why. Something shifted.”
“I've done templestays in Japan too, but the Ganghwa program was different — more intimate, more personal. The way the guide explained Korean Buddhist traditions by connecting them to universal human experience was excellent. The tea ceremony was the highlight. Such simple beauty.”
